In 1868, Carl Albert Greiner founded a cork factory in Nürtingen / Baden-Württemberg. Thirty years later another factory was opened in Kremsmünster / Upper Austria. Then, in the early Fifties, foaming individual slabstocks started, first in Germany and shortly afterwards in Austria.
Ten years later continuous foaming machines were installed which laid the cornerstone for mass production, consistent quality and foam grades with variable hardness.
Over the next few years several more factories were built and a number of subsidiaries in Austria and abroad were founded. The parent company Greiner Holding AG, founded in 1989, oversaw the expansion.
After the fall of the Iron Curtain, the formation of the new European Economic Community prompted the management to think along bigger lines. Business planning could not be limited to local markets anymore, but had to include all of Europe. The company began buying suitable foam production facilities on location.
To scatter the risk of expansion in the East on the one hand and to continue reinforcing the company’s position on the other, Greiner decided to make all future investments in the flexible foam sector together with the Belgian Recticel S.A.
In May 1993 Eurofoam GmbH was founded as a holding company based in Kremsmünster with an administrative office in Vienna. Greiner and Recticel each hold 50% of the company. Both partners brought their stakes in foam factories in the East into the business.
After four years of successful collaboration in the East, both partners also brought their flexible foam factories in Germany and Austria into the business and expanded the joint venture to Central Europe.
Eurofoam combines the know how of an organization with 2,600 employees with the highly flexible responsiveness of individual companies. Every company in the group acts independently and is therefore able to focus on the requirements of its customers and the particular circumstances in the regional markets.
